Level 1, Part (B) - The Mentoree will begin to work as a semi-independent Contract Tutor, where they begin to tutor their own client. This level must be completed within a four month time-frame. During these first two levels, the Mentoree Tutor must successfully complete a minimum of 45 hours of one-to-one tutoring and will receive a maximum total of 25 hours of mentoring. Mentoree tutors will be paid as a contractor at this level. The average rate of pay at this level is $21.00 gross per hour of tutoring provided. As a contractor, the Mentoree will be billed for space rental and administration fees each month.
Level 1, Part (C) - To complete the program, the Mentoree will continue on to Level 1-C as a primarily-independent Contract Tutor and continue to provide tutoring to the LDC clients. A minimum of 100 hours of tutoring (including the 45 hours in Level 1-B) during the 10 month period is required to achieve completion. During this level the Mentored Tutor will be periodically audited (5 hours total) by a Mentor to ensure the quality of the service being provided, and to ensure that appropriate material is being taught. The ten month time period does not include the months of July and August. The Mentoree will receive an increase in the amount of remuneration paid for each hour of tutoring provided for the duration of this portion of the contract
Level 1, Part (D) - of the Mentoring Program is designed for new contract tutors who can provide acceptable documented proof of their tutoring experience. Educational equivalence and tutoring experience deemed to be appropriate to accommodate the needs of LDC clients may be considered. This level is meant to be flexible for tutors who were trained elsewhere, or who haven’t tutored for some time. All tutors contracted through the LDC must provided proof of completion of a multisensory training program and meet the requirements listed under the ‘Applying’ section. Individual timelines recommended by the Mentor Team with approval from the Quality Assurance Advisor, must be forwarded to the Finance Committee for approval. Remuneration for tutoring hours provided is negotiated individually.
Upon completion of the program levels above, the Mentored Tutor will be eligible to apply as a Contract Tutor with the LDC. The guidelines for the Contract Tutors are included in the ‘Contract Tutor Orientation’ booklet which continues on to Level 2 of our Tutor Levels Guidelines. The Mentored Tutor (Mentoree) must apply to the LDC for a Tutoring Contract.
Clients
All Mentorees will provide one-to-one multisensory tutoring with a minimum of two clients for Level 1 Parts B, C, and D. The Mentoree Tutor can apply for more clients by submitting a request to their Mentor Tutor. The Mentor tutor may also recommend additional clients. Either request must be submitted to the Mentor Team and approved by the Quality Assurance Advisor.
The timelines and client numbers were established so the LDC can ensure cost recovery for the Mentoring Program. The budget for the Mentoring Program is based on these timelines and must be adhered to. A commitment, less that the recommended timeframe or with less students, will result in the program budget exceeding allowable expenses.
Enrollment in the Mentoring Program is subject to the availability of a Mentor and clients requiring tutoring. A wait list may be established for potential applicants. Please contact our office for additional information.
